Glimpses along the way

Guru Purnima 2011

Kids in shrine on Guru Purnima

A wayside shrine on giripradakshina, the road around Mt. Arunachala

While the full moon remains hidden overhead, obscured by clouds throughout pradakshina, these three kids crowd into a small shrine at a wayside refugee settlement, Arunachala echoing in the partly-draped rock (right) and decorative string-lights, a ‘moon’ impaled upon a trishul (trident, centre).

“GururBrahma GururVishnu GururDevo Maheshvarah

Guruh sakshat Parabrahma tasmai Sri Guruveh namah”

[Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is God Maheshwar
Guru is the ParaBrahma right before one’s very eyes.
To that Guru I bow]
